This week, our water is extremely clear. The plant inside the water is still growing. It has more green new parts that appear to be curling around in the water. The water level hasn’t changed at all this week. We are wondering if that is because the plants in the soil haven’t been growing this week. The plants at the top of the terrarium look the same as they did last week. There isn’t as much condensation in the bottle this week. The soil looks still moist from the string in the water. The plant that sprouted up last week hasn’t changed. This may be because last week it had already reached the top of the terrarium, so there is no where else for it to grow. There is still a small amount of mold on the first plant that we had.
We have two very large plants in the top of our terrarium. However, one of the plants has mold on it and appears to be dying. The other plant has some new leaves that have sprouted all the way to the top of the bottle. The leaves of the moldy plant are pressed against the side of the bottle, and appear withered. The water looks slightly clearer than last week. The plant in the water has grown quite a bit, and is curled all around the inside. It is very green on the newer parts, and skinnier than the older portions of the plant. The snail didn’t reincarnate. The water level did decrease slightly again. There is still condensation on the top of the bottle and above the water.
This week, we have a new sprout across from our other plant. The new plant is 2 cm in height. Our original plant in the soil still has two leaves. The bean on the original plant has turned brown, and there are more sprouts coming out of it. They appear to have grown quite a bit. It now measures 16cm in height. The water level has decreased .1 cm, to reach 15.4 cm. We think the water may have stayed mostly steady due to this week’s weather. It has been very cloudy and rainy, with very little sun out. There appears to be more debris in the water, because it is more cloudy than usual. The plant in the water has continued to grow, sprouting new leaves at the top of it. The snail is still at the bottom, and still dead. There is condensation both above the water and at the very top of the terrarium above the soil.
This week, our plant has grown quite a bit. It now has two leaves, and is much taller. There is only one plant still in it there though. One leaf had died, and there are sprouts coming from the bean. The plant is 13.4 cm., and it grew .4 in comparison to the previous week. There is condensation still above the soil and right above the water. The plant has grown some more. The newer parts have much darker and brighter green leaves. The old part of the plant is browning and appears to be slowly dying. Our assumption from last week that our snail was deal still appears to be true. The snail is not moving, and isn’t showing any signs of life. The water does not have as many particles floating around this week, however it is still not as clear as when we first put the water. Our water level is 15.5 centimeters which is a decrease of .4 from last week.
This week we have one plant that has sprouted. It is about 13 centimeters and we think it is a bean plant. There are two leaves on the plant in addition to a lima bean. In the water, our plant looks like it has grown a lot. It is really green in the top with new parts. The bottom of the plant has leaves that are brownish. Our snail appears to be dead. It is not moving, and is half out of his shell. Our water level decreased .3 centimeters. There is still condensation in the in the top and bottom of the bottles. We do not see any of the Daphnia.
In our second observation, we have noticed that the water is not as clear as it was last week. There are particles and what appears to be algae floating around in the water. Our snail was very active and stuck to the side of the bottle. We cannot find the Daphnia in the bottle, but the water is so dirty it would be hard to see them. There is some condensation above the water line and in the top of the bottle above the dirt. We do not see any plant growth yet. The tips of our plant in the water are not as green as they were last week.
